Hec Edmundson won the AAU 880 in 1909, and competed in the 400 and 800 at the 1912 Olympic Games, but he was best known as a basketball coach. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Idaho (1916-18), but then spent 28 years at the University of Washington (1920-47), where the field house was named in his honor. He also coached track for a few years.
