Leander Paes made history by winning the 2015 US Open mixed double title with Martina Hingis. They might not have won a title but the duo sent a message that sport can help dissolve boundaries. "What these guys are doing, bringing India and Pakistan together, is very special. It shows that sport can bring people together," Mike Bryan affirmed.

It was the Indian tennis star’s second mixed doubles title after his triumph in 1999 and his fifth mixed doubles Grand Slam at the time, incidentally each with a different partner.

Championing India’s cause at the international stage, Vijay Amritraj too had quality time at the US Open, having reached the quarter-finals in 1973 and 1974. Amritraj beat the 11-time Grand Slam champion, Björn Borg, in the second round in the US Open in 1974 before losing to Rosewall in quarter-finals.
