Biografia

Steve Trapmore’s involvement with the sport began at the age of twelve when he began to act as a coxswain for the father’s crew. At 15 he switched from being a passenger to being an oarsman and was a junior international less than two years later. His first successes at world level came as a member of a coxed four as he won a bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships. After graduating from Nottingham Trent University he joined the national training squad on a full-time basis and began to row as part of the national eight. The crew began to rise up the world rankings and made a breakthrough at the 1999 World Championships where they placed second. The next year they improved on this feat and Trapmore was part of the Olympic championship winning crew. Unlike many of his Sydney crewmates he elected to continue rowing and won a world title in 2002 with the British coxed four. A back injury sustained in 2003 brought a premature end to his rowing career and he switched to coaching. In 2010 he was appointed head coach of Cambridge University Boat Club.
