Biografia

At the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games East German heptathlete Sabine John won the silver medal and placed eighth in the long jump. In 1982 and 1983, she added two more silver medals at the European and World Championships in the heptathlon, beaten on both occasions by her teammate Ramona Neubert. Domestically John won four East German titles – heptathlon (1984), indoor pentathlon (1984-85), 4x100 relay (1985).

Although John set a heptathlon world record in 1984 she missed the Los Angeles Olympic Games due to the Soviet-led boycott by the Eastern Bloc. She set three indoor pentathlon and two outdoor pentathlon world records. In former GDR documents on doping, which became public after reunification, her name was found in the list of doped athletes. John was educated as a graduated sports teacher and worked as a coach at SC Magdeburg. After reunification she managed a fitness studio at Zinnowitz from 2001-03, and later worked as a personal and fitness coach at Usedom.

Personal Bests: LJ – 7.12 (1984); Hep – 6946 (1984).
