Biografia

Roland Svensson was the son of Egon Svensson who won a silver medal in Greco-Roman at the 1936 Olympics, and was twice a silver medalist at the European Championships – in 1937-38. Roland Svensson competed for Sweden in Greco-Roman at the 1968 Olympics, but did not win a medal. He did win a silver medal in Greco at 62 kg at the 1969 World Championships. He also competed at four European Championships from 1968-73 in Greco-Roman but never made a podium. He never won a Swedish title but in 1972 was runner-up in both the Swedish and Nordic Championships. His cousin, Leif Freij, also competed at the 1960 Olympics as a Greco-Roman wrestler, and keeping with family tradition, won a silver medal at both the Europeans and Worlds, both in 1966.

Svensson later became a coach with Finspångs AIK. In 1993 he was awarded the Frystadsmedal for his contributions to Swedish wrestling. He also served as a board representative with the Swedish Wrestling Federation up through the early 2000s.
