Biografia

Peter Kormann's bronze medal in floor exercise at Montreal was the first Olympic medal won by an American male gymnast against foreign competition and using international rules. Kormann went to Southern Connecticut State where he was coached by former Olympian Abie Grossfeld. At the 1975 Pan American Games he won gold in floor and with the team. He had quite a year in 1976, winning the U.S. Gymnastic Federation's first Gymnast of the Year Award, winning the NCAA Division I and Division II titles (the only time one gymnast has won two divisions), and taking his Olympic medal. Kormann later went into coaching. Until 1979 he coached at his alma mater but then moved on to become a coach at the U.S. Naval Academy. He has also worked as a gymnastics judge and as a color commentator for television.
