Biografia

Marianne Seltsam was one of Germany’s best alpine skiers during the 1950s. She placed 10th in the giant slalom at the 1952 Oslo Winter Games and was 12th four years later, also taking part in the slalom at both Games. In 1950, when she was just starting her successful career in alpine skiing, Seltsam broke her leg taking part in the German Championships in Schleching, Bavaria. Her most important international performance came in 1953, when she won all three alpine events at the FIS-races in Sestriere, Italy. The same year, she again broke her leg in Schleching, this time practising for the German Championships. In 1954 Seltsam finally won a German championship in slalom, and was elected German Sportswoman of the Year. She started her sports career as a figure skater and was also active in her father’s domain, motocross cycling.
