Biografia

Margaret Jenkins came from an athletic family, with a mother who competed in cycling in the 1890s and an uncle, Doug Helm, who was a football coach at the local high school, Los Gatos High School, and for whom the field would later be named. She competed for the Northern California Athletic Club and in 1927-28 set two world records with the javelin. Jenkins competed twice at the Olympics, throwing the discus in 1928 and 1932. She was 1927-28 AAU Champion with the javelin, and placed second in 1927 in the baseball throw. Jenkins attended San Jose State College, but there was no women's track team at that time. She was an all-round athlete, also competing in baseball, basketball, hockey, volleyball, and tennis and between 1924-26, she was Santa Clara County tennis champion in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. She later became a teacher for over 30 years.
