Biografia

Leonhard Nagenrauft was a five-time West German champion in luge, winning in 1966, 1967,1969 and 1973 in the men’s singles and in 1969 in the doubles together with Hans Wimmer. In 1967, he was European Champion in the singles, his greatest career success. He added another bronze medal at the 1972 Europeans in the same event and earned silver at the 1971 World Championships. At his two Olympic appearances in 1968 and 1972 Nagenrauft missed the medal ranks, placing ninth and fifth, respectively. In Sapporo in 1972 he was defeated only by four East German sliders. One year later, he retired from competition. Nagenrauft was married to Czechoslovakian female luger Olina Hátlová-Tylová, also twice an Olympian. She left her home country after the “Prague Spring” of 1968.
