Biografia

Lance Deal was the top US hammer thrower of the 1990s, winning a silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and gold medals at the 1995 and 1999 Pan American Games. In 1996 he also won the Grand Prix Final. Deal competed at the World Championships in 1991, 1993, 1995, and 1999, with a best finish of fifth in 1995. He competed at four consecutive Olympics from 1988-2000.

Deal attended Montana State University. He was a nine-time US Champion outdoors with three runner-up finishes and three third places. Deal later worked for the University of Oregon as director of track & field venues, after serving as the throws coach at Oregon. He is a member of the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2014 was elected into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.
