John Francis FLEMING

The standard of shooting in the small-bore rifle (moving target) event at the 1908 Olympics was disappointing and John Fleming was one of the four British competitors who tied for first place with a modest score of 24 points out of a possible 45. After the targets had been examined, Fleming was awarded the gold medal on the count back. John Fleming, a civil servant, was for many years a member of the City Rifle Club and during the World War I was an instructor at the NRA School of Musketry. He was in the King’s Hundred in 1934 and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.
