Red-haired Jim Murray started practicing luge as a student at the University of Montana. Murray competed for the US at three Winter Olympics and at the 1970, 1971, and 1975 World Championships. He also served in the military between the 1968 and 1972 Winter Olympics, serving both in Germany and Vietnam. He spent some time as a ski instructor and teacher, but Murray eventually became a real estate broker, in Denver, Montana, and Florida, before settling in Pinehurst, North Carolina, where he started Moore County Real Estate Brokers. He has also served in several volunteer positions, including President of the Pinehurst Southern Pines Board of Realtors, and President of the North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee Olympians.
