Biografia

With 514 caps, Ingrid Visser was the Dutch athlete with the highest number of international matches played in any sport, beating fellow volleyball player Peter Blangé's record in 2011. Her first international success came at age 18, when she played in the team that won the 1995 European Championships. She would have to wait until 2007 until the Dutch team won another major tournament, the World Grand Prix in Ningbo, China. In club volleyball, she played in five different countries, winning three Dutch titles (1996-97 with VVC, 2008 with Martinus) and four Spanish crowns (2003 with Tenerife, 2004-2006 with Tenerife). She also won two European club titles, winning the Champions League in 2004 with Tenerife, and the CEV Cup in 2001 with Vicenza. In May 2013 Visser and her partner, former national team coach Lodewijk Severein, went missing in Murcia. After they failed to show up at a hospital for fertility treatments, and also missed an appointment in the Netherlands, their family notified the authorities. Two weeks later, their bodies were found, half buried in an orchard in the village of Alquerias, not far from Murcia. They had apparently been held hostage over a business conflict and were killed. Three people were arrested shortly after discovery of their bodies.
