Heinrich ANGST

Heiri Angst was one of the most successful Swiss bobsledders of the late 1940s and 1950s. He first appeared at the Winter Olympics in 1948, where he finished fourth in the four-man event alongside Felix Endrich, Fritz Feierabend, and Fritz Waller. He would not attend the Games again until 1956 but, in the intervening years, he won gold twice (1954 and 1955) and bronze thrice (1949-1951) in the four-man at the World Championships. He also captured silver in 1949 (with Feierabend) and bronze in 1955 (with Franz Kapus) in the two-man event. He topped off his career with a gold medal in the four-man at the 1956 Winter Olympics, alongside Kapus, Robert Alt, and Gottfried Diener and came in seventh in the two-man (with Kapus) at the same Games. Outside of the bobsled, he was also active as a gymnast and a wrestler. By career he was a butcher and, in 1942, began running his own butcher shop. By the time of his death in 1989 his business and factories had spread throughout Switzerland and overseas as far as Brazil. His brother Max was also a successful international bobsledder who won a bronze medal in the two-man event at the 1956 Games.
