Biografia

Harry Frieda was a versatile athlete from Chicago who won the NCAA javelin in 1923 and placed five times in the AAU decathlon, with a best finish of second in 1923, and 1926-27. He also placed sixth in the discus throw at the 1923 NCAA meet. Frieda attended the University of Chicago and later competed for the Illinois AC. He competed at the 1928 AAU/Olympic Trials, finishing eighth, and sixth at the 1929 AAU, before leaving competition. In 1925 Frieda received the Western Conference (forerunner of the Big 10) Medal.

Frieda joined the Chicago public school system in 1927. He coached track and baseball for six years at Calumet High School before transferring to Lake View High School, where he taught physical education and coached the football team until his retirement in 1967.
