Biografia

Brick Muller was best known at the University of California as an outstanding tailback on the football team and, after having been named third team in 1920, he was voted first-team All-America in 1920 and 1921. He was the star of the 1920 Cal football team, considered one of the greatest college football teams of all time. Muller was an outstanding all-round athlete and at the 1920 Western Olympic Trials he not only won the high jump but also placed second in the long jump and triple jump. In 1921 he tied for first place in the IC4A high jump and in 1922 he finished second in the IC4A discus throw. In 1926 he became player-coach of the Los Angeles Buccaneers, an NFL team that lasted for only one year. Muller earned an M.D. degree from Cal in 1924 and practiced medicine the rest of his life. During World War II he served as a Major in the US Army Medical Center as an orthopedic surgeon. In 1956 Muller took over as chief physician of the US Olympic team to once again participate in the Olympic Games.
