Biografia

German diver Gottlob Walz won a gold medal on platform at the 1906 Athina Olympics. Two years later in London he won a bronze medal on springboard, tieing George Gaidzik, both behind Walz’s teammates Albert Zürner and Kurt Behrens. Nationally Walz was German Champion on springboard from 1900-03 and in 1899 won the diving combination. Between 1901 and 1903 he was European Champion for three consecutive years and added a bronze medal in 1908.

In 1912 Walz published his textbook Die Kunst des Wasserspringens in Wort und Bild (The Art of Diving in Words and Pictures). After World War I he headed a paper mill in Switzerland. In 1988 he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame as a diving pioneer.
