Although Frank Wörndl never won a World Cup race in his career, he was the most successful German slalom skier in Germany during the 1980s along with Florian Beck, and in 1987 Wörndl won the slalom World Championship in Crans-Montana. He won the silver medal in the slalom at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, also placing eighth in the giant slalom. At the end of that season he retired. On the national level he won four slalom titles and one in the giant slalom. After his active career he worked as a TV commentator for German television ZDF and Eurosport. Since 2007 he has run a fitness studio in his hometown of Sonthofen. In 2011 he started a career as a singer.
