Biografia

Jim Delaney of the Olympic Club in San Francisco, and formerly of Notre Dame, set a personal career best when he won the 1948 Final Trials at 55-1¾ (16.81). In London, Delaney bettered the previous Olympic record but he was decisively beaten by Moose Thompson. Delaney did edge out Jim Fuchs as the U.S. swept the 1948 shot put medals. Delaney was third at the 1943 AAU and second in 1946, before winning the AAU title in 1947 and 1948.

Jim Delaney served in the US Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He later spent most of his working career with Steelcase, Inc., retiring in 1987 as Vice-President and General Manager of the West Coast Division of the company.
