Biografia

Erzsébet Gulyás-Köteles took up gymnastics in 1938 and, although her international career was slowed by World War II, nationally she gained prestige from 1942, after winning her first national championship. Following the conflict, she took up a degree in physical education and won numerous medals at the University Championships, but it was at the Olympic Games that she truly shined. In 1948, she took silver in the team all-around, a feat that she repeated in 1952, in addition to winning bronze in the team portable apparatus. She finally took gold in the latter event in 1956, while also earning a third silver medal in the team all-around. Individually, she had her best result of fourth in the floor exercise at the 1952 Helsinki Games, tied with Galina Urbanovich of the Soviet Union. She also won silver in the team all-around at the 1954 World Championships. Following her retirement from active competition, she worked as a physical education teacher, but also held several administrative roles in gymnastics.
