Biografia

Ernő Schubert, who competed for MUE Budapest, was one of the best European sprinters in the early 1900s. At just age 17, Schubert won Hungarian championships in both the 100 yds and long jump. During his career he not only performed well in Hungary, but also won several major titles in Austria and Bohemia.

Schubert had already retired from sport when he argued that the new sprinter generation did not match those from his era. The debate was followed by a bet and Schubert was required to win a 100 metre championship again in Austria, which he had won for the first time 10 years before. Schubert won the race and the bet. At the 1900 Summer Olympics, Schubert competed in the sprints and long jump.

Between 1904-1908, Schubert worked as the referee of the MÚE football team in the Hungarian first division and also in other championships. After his sports career and university studies, he worked as a clerk of the Budapest City.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.0 (1899); 200 – 23.0 (1901); LJ – 6.47 (1902).
