Emil Schulz was a West German boxer who won the silver medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the middleweight class. Schulz, a southpaw with a punishing left-hand punch, began his career as a youth boxer in 1951 at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, in his hometown. In 1960 he won his first national title in the middleweight class which he defended for the next four years, and in 1963 Schulz won a bronze medal at the European Championships. In early 1965 he developed a severe illness, and although he recovered, he was forced to retire from competition. During his career he lost only 21 of 223 bouts. In March 2010 he died in his hometown of Kaiserslautern.
