Biografia

Carolyn House was only 14-years-old when she made the 1960 US Olympic team by placing second in the 400 metre freestyle. At the time it was the longest race for women at the Olympics, but it was really too short for House. She was 1960 AAU Champion outdoors in the 1,500 free, winning that title again in 1961-62, and also winning the 400 free in 1961-62. In August 1962 House broke world records in both the 800 freestyle – 9:51.6 in 16 August – and 1,500 freestyle – 18:44.0 on 26 August. She swam for the Los Angeles Athletic Club in 1960, and later swam for Southern Cal. House is a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame. She was the daughter of Howard House, MD, a renowned otolaryngologist in Los Angeles.
