The venue, renamed in 2016 as the McAuley Aquatic Centre, was the first in Games history to host all Olympic aquatics events: diving, swimming, water polo and artistic swimming. It is now open daily to the public for classes, clubs, age group and masters-level swimming teams and for pure recreational purposes. It is also home to the Georgia Tech swimming team who sent eight of its members to represent the USA at the Olympic Games Rio 2016.
The main 50m pool can be configured to any size. It also boasts a roof covered in solar panels designed by the Georgia Tech Research Institute. These produce energy to heat the pool. Since the Games, it has hosted regular national and collegiate championships. In 2016, it was the final training base for the USA’s aquatics team ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
