बायोग्राफी

Volmar Wikström made his international début at the 1912 Olympics, where he defeated his first four opponents by fall, but then lost in the fifth round to eventual silver medalist Gustaf Malmström by decision, and in the sixth round by fall to Carl Erik Lund, thus failing to advance to the final rounds. At the 1914 Unofficial European Championships, Wikström won Greco-Roman lightweight gold, but his career was then interrupted by World War I. After the conflict Wikström continued to compete and won silver in Greco-Roman middleweight at the 1921 World Championships and made his second appearance at the Olympic arena in 1924, capturing a silver medal in freestyle lightweight. Wikström was also the 1919 Nordic champion and won two Finnish titles: in 1914 in Greco-Roman lightweight and in 1924 in freestyle middleweight. After finishing his career, Wikström worked as a sports official. From 1925-34 and 1950-51 he was president of Helsingin Atleetiklubi and, in 1934, was president of the Finnish Boxing Federation. He also worked as a boxing promoter.
