Sebastião Wolf’s father died young and his mother married the German-Brazilian naturalist Hermann Albrecht Friedrich von Ihering, who went to Brazil in 1880 and stayed there for 30 years. Wolf assisted his stepfather in research on birds and fish and assisted him with publications. Wolf was a famous marksman in Porto Alegre, and later became president of his club Tiro 4. In 1910, he participated in the first international shooting contest in South America, the tournament celebrating the Centenary of Argentine Independence and two years later won a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Buenos Aires with the Brazilian pistol shooting team. In 1915, Wolf won the Brazilian championship in Rio de Janeiro, outshooting his Antwerpen teammates Afrânio da Costa and Guilherme Paraense. Wolf was the owner of a biscuit factory. His family produced a number of accomplished shooters.
