Prior to the 1968 Olympics, Radamés Treviño had ridden for Mexico at the 1967 World Championships in the team time trial, helping them to a 25th-place finish. In 1969 he competed at the Tour de l’Avenir, but failed to finish, but he did place second at the lesser Tour of Cuba. Treviño won three medals at the 1967 Pan American Games - silver in the team pursuit and team time trial, and a bronze in the individual pursuit.
