बायोग्राफी

Marianne Werner was a West German shot putter and discus thrower in the 1950s. She earned a silver medal in shot put at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics for West Germany and a bronze four years later in Melbourne for Germany. In the discus she finished ninth and tenth. At the 1954 Europeans she was fifth in the shot put and 11th in the discus. Her greatest sporting moment was the shot put gold medal at the 1958 Europeans. Nationally she earned the shot put titles in 1953-54 and 1956-59, and discus titles in 1947 and 1951-54, adding shot put titles indoors from 1955-59.

In 1958 Werner was elected Sportswoman of the Year and one year later received the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Award. In 1952 and 1957 she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf. The trained physiotherapist and graduate sports teacher later became a professor at the Sports Science Institute of the University of Dortmund. In 1961, she published the textbook Methodology of Throwing Events for Schools and Clubs with her first husband Erich Werner. In 1985 Marianne Werner was also awarded the Dr.-Hans-Heinrich-Sievert Award.
