Lauri Aus was a decent sprinter, and managed a 5th place in the 1992 Olympic road race as second of the pack behind future top sprinter Erik Zabel. He turned pro in 1995, always riding for French teams, supporting his compatriot Jaan Kirsipuu in winning several Tour de France stages. Aus himself won various races, but only in minor competition; his most important wins were the 2000 Estonian titles in both the road race and time trial. In 2003, he was killed while training, struck by a drunk driver.
