Jaroslav Cihlář was one of the early greats of Czechoslovakian cycling. He competed at the 1956 Olympics in the road race and team pursuit. In 1956 he also became the first Czechoslovak to compete in the cyclo-cross World Championships, placing 24th. Cihlář studied in Paris in the late 1940s and early 1950s, when that was still possible, but the era in which he competed made it impossible for him to travel much. He raced in his native land until 1966 and then became a coach.
