After finishing eighth over 800 m at the 1973 European Junior Championships, she débuted as a senior at the 1974 European Championships, placing ninth in the 1,500, before winning bronze in the 1,500 at the 1975 European Juniors. Her career highlight came at the 1984 Olympics, where she won the 1,500 m gold medal and was fourth in the 800.

Dorio also won 1,500 m bronze at the 1982 European Championships, a European Indoor 1,500 m title in 1982, and a Mediterranean Games 800 m gold in 1979.
