Andy Crosby rowed for Canada on the international stage for many years, competing almost exclusively in the eights. In 1985, 1986, and 1987, he placed tenth, ninth, and fifth respectively in the event at the World Championships, as well as fourth at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. After a sixth place finish at the 1988 Summer Olympics, he switched to the coxed fours for the 1989 World Championships and placed tenth. The following year he returned to the eights and finally reached the podium with a crew consisting of Terry Paul, Bruce Robertson, Michael Rascher, Darren Barber, Derek Porter, Robert Marland, John Wallace, and Brian Saunderson. The squad repeated this feat at the 1991 edition, with Don Telfer replacing Saunderson, and then went on to win gold and set an Olympic record at the 1992 Summer Games, with Michael Forgeron in place of Telfer. Crosby retired after the Olympics, but staged a comeback a few years later in a bid to win a spot on Canada’s eights crew for the 1996 Summer Games. He was successful in this endeavour, but missed the podium at the tournament by just less than one second and retired permanently soon after. A graduate of the University of Victoria, he was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004.
