Biographie

Breaststroke swimmer Wiltrud Urselmann won the silver medal in the 200 m event at the 1960 Roma Summer Olympics despite setting a new world record mark of 2:50.2 just before the Games. She also competed at Tokyo in 1964 but failed to reach the final. Her first major international success was a bronze medal at the 1958 European Championships.

Domestically Urselmann won seven individual national titles and 18 relay titles. In 1957 she was elected the youngest ever Sportswoman of the Year in West Germany. She later married water polo international Hermann Haverkamp and became a swimming teacher.
