Biographie

Although the 1932 AAU meet was combined with the Final Trials, Billie von Bremen won the AAU title but did not finish first in the Trials. The reason for this apparently contradictory statement is that Ethel Harrington did not qualify for the 100 metre final but was permitted to run and, although she finished first, she could not be declared the AAU champion. Thus, Miss von Bremen, a graduate of Western Women’s College (Ohio), won the only AAU title of her career.

In her youth von Bremen was a very good basketball player, and later a passionate tennis player. She worked as an accountant in the Emporium Department Store and in 1932 was also chosen Miss California. In 1976 she died of a heart attack while spectating at a professional tennis tournament with her husband.

Personal Best: 100 – 12.0 (1932).
