Biographie

Vyacheslav Yanovsky took up boxing in 1970, but did not rise to prominence until the mid-1980s. Domestically, Yanovsky was twice Soviet Champion (1987, 1988), and won one silver (1984) and two bronzes (1981, 1983). Internationally, besides his 1988 Olympic gold, Yanovsky won the 1987 World Cup, and took silver at the 1987 European Championships, and bronze at the 1985 Europeans. Yanovsky finished his amateur boxing career in 1990 with a record of 286 wins out of 329 bouts and then turned professional. As a professional, Yanovsky fought 32 matches, winning 30 of them, losing one, with one draw. As professional, Yanovsky won the Japanese professional boxing championship six times and the German professional boxing championship once. Yanovsky finally retired from boxing in 1997. He then worked as the president of the Belarus Boxing Federation from 1998-2000 and later worked as a boxing manager.
