Biographie

In 1960, while still attending Los Altos High School, Steve Clark made the Olympic team and swam in the heats of both relay events. He then attended Yale, and while there won five NCAA titles and took six individual and five AAU relay championships for the Santa Clara SC. A short-course specialist noted for his split-second turns, Clark set nine world records, but was deprived of many more because short-course marks could not be accepted for world records. Clark was suffering from shoulder tendinitis at the 1964 U.S. Trials and only made the Tokyo team as a member of the relays, but did quite well in those, helping win three golds and set three world records. After Yale, Clark attended Harvard Law School and wrote a bestselling book on competitive swimming.
