Biographie

Scott Shipley was a slalom kayaker who competed at the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Olympics. Shipley won silver medals in K-1 slalom at the 1995, 1997, and 1999 World Championships. He also won the individual World Cup K-1 title three times – in 1993, 1995, and 1997. In World Cup events Shipley recorded 24 podiums, with 11 titles.

Shipley attended Georgia Tech where he earned a bachelor’s and a masters’ degree in mechanical engineering. He later went to work for S2O Design and Engineering in Boulder, Colorado. Shipley helped design Rapidblocs, which are used to create whitewater courses, allowing the block to be moved to different locations and vary the courses. With S2O he helped re-design the US Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC, and his blocks were used to design the London 2012 whitewater course, among many others.
