Rose Magers spent three years at the University of Houston, but finished her final collegiate year at LSU. She had also been a basketball and track star in high school, but focused on volleyball while in college. After college Magers was named to the US national team and helped the team win silver at the Super Three Tournament (China, Japan, USA), gold at the 1983 Pan American Games, bronze at the 1982 World Championships, gold at the NORCECA Games, and finally a silver medal at the 1984 Olympics.
After the Olympics Magers played professionally for nine years (1984-93) in Japan. During that time she was tabbed the Japan League's Most Valuable Player three times, best spiker six times, best blocker once, and led the league in scoring six times. Upon returning to the US she became a volleyball coach, starting her own volleyball camp, and coaching at Lee High School in Alabama. She later became long-time head coach at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee.
