Biographie

Bob Martin attended the University of Washington where he began rowing, but his education was interrupted by World War II. He enlisted in the Navy and saw action in the Pacific Theatre, helping with the taking of several islands, notably Saipan, Tinia, Leyte, Lingayen Gulf, and Okinawa Gunto. After the war he returned to the University of Washington and made the 1948 coxed fours team with his teammates, and together they won a gold medal in the event at London. The crew stayed close over the years and purchased a small island in the Octopus Islands in British Columbia, Canada, where they spent many summer vacations. His career after college was in the timber industry, spending over 30 years with Weyerhaeuser, where he worked until his retirement in 1982 as Vice-President of Special Products.
