Biographie

Richard Sjöberg bettered the Swedish record in 1913 with 1.86, and two years later jumped 1.92, a new Scandinavian record, which placed him in third position on the year's world list. He set the record in Kristiania (Oslo), easily defeating the Norwegian champion, Fritz Warendorph, who had recently cleared 1.90. In 1914 Sjöberg entered the open English AAA Championship, placing equal fourth in the high jump, but he won the pole vault over Tim Leahy of Ireland. Sjöberg became a pioneer at orienteering, and later was an excellent bowler. In later life, Sjöberg, then an army captain, was active in different sports organizations, and was known as a supporter of several sports.

Personal Bests: HJ – 1.92 (1915); PV – 3.60 (1912).
