Biographie

Raymond Suvigny started weightlifting in 1919 in Paris, while employed at the Métro. In 1923, he set his first French record and in 1926 won his first French Championship. He set two world records in 1926 (snatch and clean & jerk) and another one in Los Angeles in the featherweight total. After he placed ninth in 1924 at Paris, he had to skip the 1928 Olympics because of an injury even though he had totaled 280 kg in the Olympic triathlon the same year. Suvigny was third at the 1930 European Championships, and retained his national title in 1931. After his Olympic title, Raymond Suvigny ended his career. He died in 1945 at the age of 42 after a long period of captivity as a prisoner-of-war.
