Biographie

Peter Tiepold was a light-welterweight boxer who participated at the 1968 Mexico City and 1972 München Olympics. He was unfortunate to lose his quarter-final bout in 1968, against the eventual gold medalist, Jerzy Kulej from Poland, after a very close 3-2 split decision in favour of the Pole. Four years later, however, Tiepold won a bronze medal after losing his semi-final 1-4 against Kulej’s team-mate, Wiesław Rudkowski.

In the late 1960s, and early 1970s, Tiepold dominated the East Geman light-welterweight division, winning national titles in 1966-67, 1969 and 1970. He was also the national light-middleweight champion from 1973-75. Tiepold later worked as a boxing coach, until his retirement in 2008.
