Biographie

Peter Vidmar competed for UCLA, winning the 1983 Nissen Award as the nation’s top collegiate gymnast. At the 1984 Olympics Vidmar won gold medals in the team event and on pommel horse, adding a silver medal in the all-around. Vidmar later worked as a television commentator on gymnastics and as a motivational speaker. In 2008 he was named chairman of the US Gymnastics Board of Directors, and served as a co-chairman of the US Olympic Committee Summer Sports Summit. Vidmar was chosen to be the US chef de mission for the 2012 Olympics, but later withdrew from that position after protests arose from the LGBT community, because Vidmar, a Mormon, had previously spoken out against gay marriage. Vidmar is a member of the US Olympic Hall of Fame and the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
