Biographie

Pál Kovács began his sports career as a promising hurdler, but he later turned to fencing and was a member of the winning Hungarian sabre team at five successive Olympics (1936-1960). In the individual sabre he was Olympic champion in 1953 after winning a bronze in 1948. Kovács was also world sabre champion in 1937 and 1953. In 1980, he became vice-president of the Fédération International d’Éscrime (FIE).
