Biographie

Nils Engdahl won the bronze medal in 1920 over the 400 m and the silver medal in the 4 x 400 relay at his second participation in 1924. Like his brother he started as a footballer for Stockholm’s IFK until his talent for sprinting was discovered in 1917. He held Swedish records over 200 m from 1920-35 and 400 m from 1918-34. During the period 1918-27 Engdahl won four Swedish titles in the 100 metres and six each in the 200 and 400, winning the triple over all three distances in three consecutive years. In 1928 Engdahl was appointed “Stor grabb” #30 in athletics. In addition to athletics, he also played football and bandy, the latter as a forward and halfback for Järva IS until 1937. He was the brother of Sweden’s soccer international and famous sportswriter Wilhelm “Wille” Engdahl. Nils later married Signe Johansson, who participated in Paris in 1924 in diving.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.7 (1920); 400 – 48.2 (1924); 800 – 1:57.5 (1920).
