Biographie

Michael Roth played handball with SG Leutershausen, TuS Hofweier, MTSV Schwabing (until 1986), TV Großwallstadt, TV Eitra and TuSEM Essen in the Deutsche Bundesliga. In 1986 he was runner-up at the German Championships and cup winner with Schwabing, also winning cup titles in 1987 and 1989, and a 1990 German title with Großwallstadt. In 1992 he was again runner-up at the German Championships with Leutershausen. Roth earned 44 international caps, scoring 60 goals. His greatest moments were silver medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and 1983 World Championships.

Michael and his twin brother Ulrich Roth both developed prostate cancer almost simultaneously in 2009, and wrote of their struggle in their book Unser Leben – Unsere Krankheit (Our Life - Our Disease).Their father Oskar Roth (* 1933) was a former basketball international, earning 63 international caps. In 1994, Michael became a handball coach and coached German clubs TSV Östringen, SG Kronau-Östringen, TV Großwallstadt, HSG Wetzlar, and MT Melsungen. He also worked as a media consultant.
