Biographie

A rider with the Solihull club, Mick Bennett was an employee in fellow Olympic medallist Tommy Godwin's cycling business whilst riding as an amateur. He helped continue the British pursuit team's remarkable run of bronze medals in Olympic team pursuit and won a silver medal in the same event in the 1973 World Championships. Bennett was also a member of the English team that won the Commonwealth Games title in 1974. After the 1976 Olympics he elected to turn professional with the Carlton-Weinmann team. He spent nearly a decade on the roads and won a stage of the London-to-Glasgow race in 1980 as well as the Tom Simpson Memorial Race in 1981. Bennett continued in the sport as an administrator and was race director of the Tour of Britain.
