Biographie

Märta Norberg won her first Swedish national title in cross-country skiing’s 10 kilometer event in 1939, at the age of 17, but World War II interrupted her promising career in the sport. Upon the resumption of competition in 1947, she won every national 10 kilometer title through 1952, except in 1950. She also earned national titles in the 3x7 kilometer relay in 1951, 1952, 1957, and 1959. Internationally, she took part in the 10 kilometer tournament at the 1952 Winter Olympics and finished just off the podium in fourth, missing a bronze medal by only three seconds. She was more successful at the World Championships, however, taking bronze medals in the 3x5 kilometer relay in 1954 (with Anna-Lisa Eriksson and Sonja Edström) and 1958 (with Edström and Irma Johansson). She retired from active competition prior to the 1960 Winter Games.
