Biographie

Lou "Hap" Kuehn was from Portland where he was a member of the Multnomah AC. He became the first American to win the Olympic springboard title when he upset the favorite, Bud Pinkston, at Antwerp. Prior to that, Kuehn’s biggest victory had been the 1919 National Junior title, although he had finished second at the 1920 AAU championships. Kuehn attended Oregon State and Northwestern Law School and practiced law in Oregon. He was a part-time coach of the Oregon State divers and also served 30 years as clerk of the Multnomah County Circuit Court before his retirement.
