Biographie

While at Merchant Taylors’ School, Lionel Cornish set new records for the 100y and 440y at the 1898 LAC Schools’ Meeting. On going up to Oxford he won his blue (1900-02), winning the 440y in 1901 and the long jump in 1901 and 1902. He went to North America with the combined Oxbridge team in 1901 but injury prevented him from showing his best form. At the AAA Championships he placed second in the long jump three times (1902, 1905, 1907). Although failing to place in the 1908 AAA Championships, he was selected for the Olympic Games. Cornish was Called to the Bar in 1904 and took up a career in banking.

Personal Bests: 440y – 50.4 (1901); LJ – 7.10 (23-3½) (1905).
